About Katy

Katy Bodenburg is the owner and operator of KB Gem & Jewelry Appraisals. A full-time independent appraiser and gemologist since 2005; Katy has over 30 years of experience in the jewelry industry including retail sales, quality control, jewelry design, repair and gem setting. Born and raised in Cincinnati, Katy is delighted to provide jewelry appraisal services to residents of her hometown.

The appraiser attended the University of Akron and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Metalsmithing and Jewelry Design. During Katy’s time working at the bench performing jewelry repairs and setting stones, her interests in the gem world grew immensely. After intensive gemological studies, she was awarded her Graduate Gemologist degree from the renowned Gemological Institute of America in 1997.

Katy is committed to learning and began studying appraisal theory a few years before opening her business. In 2013, she received the “Certified Master Appraiser” designation through the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers; becoming the fourth CMA in the nation. Ms. Bodenburg is a member of the Accredited Gemologists Association and the GIA Alumni Association of Greater Cincinnati. Her training is ongoing in the field of appraising, new gemological findings and advancements, current jewelry trends and manufacturing techniques. Katy attends annual jewelry-related conferences, educational seminars and workshops.

The appraiser is pleased to have her gem lab designated as AGA’s “Certified Gemological Laboratory No. 45” through the Accredited Gemologists Association.
